Identification

Large, strong and rustic dog that stands out for its imposing and noble appearance, with a proud bearing and sober look. Large head, but not too bulky in proportion to the size of the body, medium-sized, straight, strong and well-muscled neck, with a visible dewlap, high and well-groomed limbs, strong bone, strong, bulky and round legs, the back is short, firm, straight and wide. Thick coat, of medium length and abundant. The hair is smooth and very dense. The most common colours are white mottled black, yellow, fawn or wolf in one colour or streaked.

In this breed, the dimorphism is evident, reaching male’s height and corpulence considerably higher than females.

It is the largest Portuguese breed.
