Identification

Pig-like appearance, robust body, appears laterally flattened with large head, short and strong limbs. Dark coat with a strong odor. The defenses (upper canines) only in males are projected upwards. The summer coat consists of protective hairs (bristles) that are still relatively long and dense; dense winter coat, with longer hair and a thick, stiff undercoat.

In the first months of life, the pups show horizontal stripes that fade until they disappear around 6 months of age.
