Identification

The tawny owl Strix aluco is a bird of prey with wide, with rounded wings. It has a large and very round head. Its colour varies between red-brown and grey-brown and mottled plumage, with fine stripes and dark spots. The facial disc is quite marked and homogeneous. It has large, dark eyes, yellowish beak. In this species sexual dimorphism occurs, with the female being larger and heavier than the male.
